Campinas, Brazil – Aviagen® Latin America continually shares expertise to support the success of the poultry industry both regionally and globally. At the recent FACTA Breeding Symposium in Chapecó, Brazil, held on Oct. 15-16, Rodrigo Tedesco, Aviagen's Regional Technical Services Supervisor in Brazil, highlighted the importance of early male breeder management. His presentation focused on how proper early care is crucial for optimizing fertility, reproductive efficiency, and overall farm productivity.
Giving male breeders the best chick start
“The initial management of breeding males is vital for achieving high fertility rates and farm profitability,” said Tedesco. “This stage directly impacts key performance indicators, such as the number of chicks per female housed, which influences both productivity and sustainability.”
Tedesco highlighted that the early handling of the male, particularly in the first four weeks, is essential for their development and future reproductive success. Achieving the right weight and skeletal structure during this phase is critical for the birds to reach their full genetic potential.
Additionally, Tedesco emphasized the importance of maintaining ideal temperature and humidity levels to ensure optimal development and reduce the risk of health issues, which can affect fertility and overall flock performance.
“Our goal is to help poultry producers enhance the efficiency and productivity of their operations, as well as the health and welfare of the birds, by providing practical management strategies,” Tedesco concluded.
