EDINBURGH, Scotland – Aviagen^® is proud to share that Charlotte Commins, Company Veterinarian, has been appointed President of the British Veterinary Poultry Association (BVPA) for a two-year term.

Charlotte brings with her a wealth of experience in poultry veterinary medicine, having previously served on the BVPA committee as Treasurer and most recently as Junior Vice President.

Supporting poultry health and welfare across the UK

As President, Charlotte will guide the BVPA in its mission to promote poultry veterinary medicine through education, research and collaboration. She will act as a key liaison between the veterinary profession, Government bodies, non-government organisations (NGOs) and the wider poultry sector – helping to shape policies and practices that safeguard both bird health and food production. With a focus on advancing knowledge and supporting veterinary professionals, Charlotte’s leadership will help ensure the UK poultry sector continues to thrive in a responsible and sustainable way.

Trusted voice for the UK poultry veterinary community

At the BVPA spring meeting held in Harrogate, England, in March – a joint event with the World Poultry Science Association (WPSA) – outgoing President Michael Clark praised Charlotte’s appointment: “I have no doubt that Charlotte will provide excellent leadership for BVPA. She has already proven her worth having been on BVPA committee for many years. Her background in private poultry practice and now as a veterinarian in a primary breed company means she is well placed to serve the BVPA membership. It is important that capable women such as Charlotte hold these key positions reflecting the changing demographic in the profession and the wider livestock sector.”

Charlotte shared her thoughts on taking up the role of President: “I am delighted to take on the role of President of the British Veterinary Poultry Association. It’s always enjoyable to work alongside such a dedicated and knowledgeable team, all of whom are deeply committed to advancing the health and welfare of poultry. Together, we will continue to support the profession, strengthen the voice of veterinary poultry medicine, and drive positive change for the industry as a whole. I look forward to collaborating with my colleagues to tackle the challenges and opportunities ahead.”
